Description of Pictures: Middle Grade Fantasy

M. Tara Crowl:
M. Tara Crowl grew up in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She studied Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California, then received an MA in Creative Writing at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Her debut novel, “Eden’s Wish,” was released in 2016 by Disney-Hyperion. The second book in the series, “Eden’s Escape,”will be released on September 6, 2016. She lives in New York City.

Dianne K. Salerni:
Dianne K. Salerni is the author of the popular children’s “Eighth Day” fantasy series about a secret day of the week, described by Kirkus as “an exciting blend of Arthurian legend and organized crime.” She has also published two YA historical novels: “The Caged Graves,” a Junior Library Guild Selection, and “We Hear the Dead,” inspiration for a short film, “The Spirit Game,” which premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Dianne is a former elementary school teacher who retired from teaching to spend more time hanging around creepy cemeteries and climbing 2,000-year-old pyramids in the name of book research.

2016 photos: Equipment this year: I continued to use my Fuji XS-1 cameras but, depending on the event, I also used a Nikon D7000. Seven relatively short trips this year: two Civil War Trust conference (Gettysburg, PA and West Point, NY, with a side-trip to New York City), my 11th consecutive San Diego Comic-Con trip (including sites in Utah, Nevada, and California), a quick trip to Michigan for Uncle Wayne's funeral, two additional trips to New York City, and a Civil Rights site trip to Alabama during the November elections. Being in places where people died to preserve the rights of minority voters made the Trumputin election even more depressing. Number of photos taken this year: just over 610,000.
