SDCC_160720_505.JPG: X-Wing Fighter Carship
Designed by: Dmitriy Shakhmatov
The iconic X-Wing Fighter has been reimagined as a high performance Hot Wheels racecar.
SDCC_160720_561.JPG: Walking Dead set
SDCC_160720_591.JPG: Supergirl
Designed by three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, the iconic Supergirl costume was inspired by the classic graphics of an early Supergirl, but made ready for action. The cape is attached to an undersuit so that it doesn't pull on the costume in fight scenes, while the familiar blue and red outersuit is made of "Eurojersey" fabric, ideal for movement. If you look closely enough, you'll see that the "S" glyph has been layered onto the costume with fabric ink to give it dimension and make it more visible in flying scenes. Kara's iconic suit is modeled here on a life-size body scan of Supergirl star Melissa Benoist.
SDCC_160720_596.JPG: Flash
In the series, tech genius Cisco Ramon (series star Carlos Valdes) develops Barry Allen's singular Flash suit at S.T.A.R. Labs. The actual costume, however, was initially designed by the acclaimed Colleen Atwood in Season One; in Season Two, it was redesigned by The Flash costume designer Maya Mani incorporating the familiar lightning bold emblem on white from the DC character imagery in comics. Designed to minimize heat, friction and metahuman attacks, the familiar Flash suit is modeled here on a 1:1 scale casting, created using a laser body scan of series star Grant Gustin.
SDCC_160720_601.JPG: Arrow
Conceived and created by Arrow's costume designer Maya Mani, Oliver Queen's Arrow suit was redesigned in Season Four to introduce Star City to his latest incarnation as The Green Arrow. Although retaining elements of his trademark leather and hooded vigilante gear, The Green Arrow design is a dramatic renewal of the iconic Arrow suit originally created by Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (Alice in Wonderland, Sleepy Hollow). The Green Arrow costume is modeled here on a life-size 3-D rendering of series star Stephen Amell.

SDCC_160724_030.JPG: Two Tubes:
Edrio Two Tubes is a mercenary pilot who flies alongside his eggmate, Benthic. They share the nickname derived from the breathing apparatus that allows Tognath physiology to process oxygen atmospheres. Edrio's native world of Yar Togna was conquered and occupied by the Empire, forcing him to flee as a refugee. With a desire to strike back at the Empire, Edrio and Benthic have allied with Saw Gerrera.
SDCC_160724_032.JPG: Bodhi Rook
A former Imperial pilot, Bodhi has strong piloting and technical skills that he will put to use for the Rebellion. Ever practical, but highly anxious, Bodhi must gather his courage to bring the battle to the Empire.
SDCC_160724_035.JPG: Captain Cassian Andor
An accomplished Alliance Intelligence officer with combat field experience, Captain Cassian Andor commands respect from his Rebel troops with his ability to keep a cool head under fire and complete his missions with minimal resources.
SDCC_160724_040.JPG: Jyn Erso
Putting behind a checkered past by lending her skills to a greater cause, Jyn Erso is impetuous, defiant, and eager to bring the battle to the Empire. Used to operating alone, she finds higher purpose by taking on a desperate mission for the Rebel Alliance.
SDCC_160724_046.JPG: Baze Malbus
The harsh reality of his Imperial-occupied home world has hardened Baze Malbus into a pragmatic soldier and a crack shot with his heavy repeater cannon. Baze has a bravado that provides a marked contrast to the spiritual centeredness of his best friend and moral compass, Chirrut Imwe.
SDCC_160724_050.JPG: Chirrut Imwe
Deeply spiritual, Chirrut Imwe believes all living things are connected through the Force. His sightless eyes do not prevent him from being a highly skilled warrior. Though he lacks Force abilities, this warrior monk has rigorously honed his body through intense physical and mental discipline.
SDCC_160724_057.JPG: Imperial Death Trooper
The elite soldiers of Imperial Intelligence, Death Troopers are encased in specialized stormtrooper armor with a dark, ominous gleam. These soldiers serve as bodyguards and enforcers for Director Krennic, a highly placed officer within the Advanced Weapons Research division of the Empire.
SDCC_160724_062.JPG: Director Orson Krennic
As director of Advanced Weapons Research for the Imperial military, Orson Krennic is obsessed with the completion of the long-delayed Death Star project. A cruel but brilliant man, Krennic has staked his reputation on the delivery of the functional battle station to the Emperor.
SDCC_160724_089.JPG: Westboro Baptist Church nutjobs have been showing up at SDCC for awhile now. When I pass them by, I sometimes say loudly "You couldn't get tickets, eh?"
SDCC_160724_100.JPG: And the Westboro folks attract counter-protestors.

Bigger photos? To save space on the server and because the modern camera images are so large, photos larger than 640x480 have not been loaded on this page. If you need the bigger sizes of selected photos, email me and I can email them back to you or I can re-load this page temporarily with the bigger versions restored.
2016 photos: Equipment this year: I continued to use my Fuji XS-1 cameras but, depending on the event, I also used a Nikon D7000.
Seven relatively short trips this year:
two Civil War Trust conference (Gettysburg, PA and West Point, NY, with a side-trip to New York City),
my 11th consecutive San Diego Comic-Con trip (including sites in Utah, Nevada, and California),
a quick trip to Michigan for Uncle Wayne's funeral,
two additional trips to New York City, and
a Civil Rights site trip to Alabama during the November elections. Being in places where people died to preserve the rights of minority voters made the Trumputin election even more depressing.
Number of photos taken this year: just over 610,000.
