Description of Pictures: We Need Diverse Books
King by Ellen Oh:
Originally from New York City, author Ellen Oh is co-founder and president of WeNeedDiverseBooks. She also is an adjunct college instructor and former entertainment lawyer with an insatiable curiosity for ancient Asian history. Ellen loves martial arts films, K-pop, K-dramas, cooking shows and is a rabid fan of The Last Airbender and the Legend of Korra series. She is the author of the young adult fantasy trilogy, The Prophecy Series. Ellen lives in Bethesda, Md., with her husband and three daughters and has yet to satisfy her quest for a decent bagel.
The Jumbies by Tracey Baptiste:
Tracey Baptiste was born in Trinidad where she grew up on jumbie stories and fairy tales. She decided to be a writer at the wise old age of three. Her debut, a young adult novel titled "Angel's Grace," was named one of the 100 best books for reading and sharing by New York City librarians. Her second young adult novel, "The Jumbies," is due out this spring. Tracey is a former teacher, textbook editor and amateur librarian who once started up a library in her house in the hope that everyone would bring their books back late and she would be rich. You know, like other librarians. She is now a wife and mom and lives in New Jersey.
The Shadow Hero by Gene Luen Yang:
Gene Luen Yang is the author of "American Born Chinese," the first graphic novel to be nominated for a National Book Award and the first to win the ALA’s Printz Award. "Boxers & Saints," about the Boxer Rebellion, was nominated for a National Book Award and won the L.A. Times Book Prize. Gene has done a number of other graphic novels, including the comics continuation of the popular Nickelodeon cartoon "Avatar: The Last Airbender." In addition to cartooning, he also teaches high school computer science, as well as creative writing through Hamline University. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Written in the Stars by Aisha Saeed:

Bigger photos? To save space on the server and because the modern camera images are so large, photos larger than 640x480 have not been loaded on this page. If you need the bigger sizes of selected photos, email me and I can email them back to you or I can re-load this page temporarily with the bigger versions restored.
