Description of Pictures: Honoring leaders of the Disability Rights Movement on steps across Washington DC.
On March 12, 1990, activists with disabilities abandoned their crutches and wheelchairs to pull themselves up the 83 stone steps at the Capitol Building and demanded passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. On July 26th, the bill was signed. For the 25th anniversary of the ADA, we’re honoring leaders of the Disability Rights Movement, past and present, through portraits displayed on stairways across Washington D.C.

ADANEW_150724_14.JPG: Taking Steps Toward a Better Nation:
The Newseum joins Google in commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act by taking part in a citywide project that uses steps to portray people who exercised their First Amendment rights to advocate for people with disabilities.
In March 1990, protesters left behind their wheelchairs, crutches and walkers and dragged and crawled their way up the U.S. Capitol steps, chanting "ADA now!" The demonstration is considered a major turning point that led to the signing of the disability act on July 26, 1990.
The use of free speech, assembly and petition by disability rights activists followed in the grand tradition of U.S. social movements that have used First Amendment freedoms to make our nation a better place to live.

Bigger photos? To save server space, the full-sized versions of these images have either not been loaded to the server or have been removed from the server. (Only some pages are loaded with full-sized images and those usually get removed after three months.)
I still have them though. If you want me to email them to you, please send an email to guthrie.bruce@gmail.com
and I can email them to you, or, depending on the number of images, just repost the page again will the full-sized images.
2015 photos: Equipment this year: I mostly used my Fuji XS-1 camera but, depending on the event, I also used a Nikon D7000.
I retired from the US Census Bureau in god-forsaken Suitland, Maryland on my 58th birthday in May. Yee ha!

a quick trip to Florida.
two Civil War Trust conferences (Raleigh, NC and Richmond, VA), and
my 10th consecutive San Diego Comic-Con trip (including Los Angeles).
Ego Strokes: Carolyn Cerbin used a Kevin Costner photo in her USA Today article. Miss DC pictures were used a few times in the Washington Post.
Number of photos taken this year: just over 550,000.
