- Description of Pictures: Historical Figures in DC
John Muller is a Washington-based journalist, historian, playwright and policy analyst, and the author most recently of "Mark Twain in Washington, DC: The Adventures of a Capital Correspondent" (The History Press). His first book, "Frederick Douglass in Washington, D.C.: The Lion of Anacostia," won a public vote to be selected as the DC Public Library's 2013 DC Reads and was featured at last year's Gaithersburg Book Festival. John works as an associate librarian at the Special Collections Department of the DC Public Library and is a current contributor to Capital Community News, Greater Greater Washington and other Washington, D.C.-area media. He is also a former reporter for the Washington Times.
Dr. Ida E. Jones is a native of Cambridge, Mass., and is the assistant curator of manuscripts at the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center at Howard University. Her most recent book is "Mary McLeod Bethune in Washington, D.C.: Education and Activism in Logan Circle" (History Press). The Mary McLeod Bethune Council House, which is part of the National Park Service, said this book was the best source to learn about Mrs. Bethune and the National Council of Negro Women during the early years. Ida's first book was a biography of Howard University Dean Kelly Miller, an African-American mathematician, sociologist, essayist, newspaper columnist, author and an important figure in the intellectual life of black America for close to half a century. Ida has appeared on C-SPAN as the moderator for a discussion on the ninetieth anniversary of women's suffrage. She is a consummate public scholar who seeks to inform people about the gravity that history and historical studies have on everyday life. She holds a B.A. in journalism and Ph.D. in American history from Howard University. Ida believes deeply in the words of Mrs. Bethune who stated “power must walk hand in hand with humility and the intellect must have a soul.”

I love well-behaved spiders! They are, in fact, how most people find my site. Unfortunately, my network has a limited bandwidth and pictures take up bandwidth. Spiders ask for lots and lots of pages and chew up lots and lots of bandwidth which slows things down considerably for regular folk. To counter this, you'll see all the text on the page but the images are being suppressed. Also, some system options like merges are being blocked for you.
Note: Permission is NOT granted for spiders, robots, etc to use the site for AI-generation purposes. I'm sure you're thrilled by your ability to make revenue from my work but there's nothing in that for my human users or for me.
If you are in fact human, please email me at guthrie.bruce@gmail.com and I can check if your designation was made in error. Given your number of hits, that's unlikely but what the hell.

- Bigger photos? To save server space, the full-sized versions of these images have either not been loaded to the server or have been removed from the server. (Only some pages are loaded with full-sized images and those usually get removed after three months.)
I still have them though. If you want me to email them to you, please send an email to guthrie.bruce@gmail.com
and I can email them to you, or, depending on the number of images, just repost the page again will the full-sized images.
