Description of Pictures: Fierce Reads
Lindsay Smith's love of Russian culture has taken her to Moscow, St. Petersburg and a reindeer festival in the middle of Siberia. "Sekret" (Roaring Brook Press), a YA historical thriller, is her first novel. Lindsay writes on foreign affairs and lives in Washington, D.C. When she'd not reading or writing, she can be found nerding out over food, board games, modern history, the Science channel and all things cheesetacular.
Anna Banks' first novel, "Of Poseidon" (Square Fish), was praised by Kirkus Reviews as “entertaining for readers riding the wave of mermaid fantasies.” Both "Of Poseidon" and its sequel, "Of Triton," were Macmillan Fierce Reads titles. Anna lives in Crestview, on the Florida Panhandle, with her husband and their daughter, and grew up in Niceville, Fla.
Katie Finn is the acclaimed author of "Top 8," "What’s Your Status?" and "Unfriended." Katie is also known as Morgan Matson, the young adult novelist of the hits "Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour" and "Second Chance Summer." Katie Finn grew up in Connecticut, in a town that looks an awful lot like Putnam. During high school, Katie was a total theater devotee (like Madison) and never dreamed she'd be a writer. But lots of Katie's high school misadventures have made it into her books...which just goes to show that you never know! She currently lives in Los Angeles, Ca.
Emmy Laybourne is a novelist, teacher and former character actress. Before her life as an author, Emmy performed original comedy on Comedy Central, MTV and VH1, and acted in the movies "Superstar," "The In-Laws" and "Nancy Drew," among others. Nowadays, Emmy loves working on the Monument 14 trilogy. The next book in the series, "Monument 14: Savage Drift," will be out in May 2014. Emmy lives outside New York City with her husband, two kids and a flock of six nifty chickens.

2014 photos: Equipment this year: I mostly used my Fuji XS-1 camera but, depending on the event, I also used a Nikon D7000.
Trips this year:
three Civil War Trust conferences (Winchester, VA, Nashville, TN, and Atlanta, GA),
Michigan to visit mom in the hospice before she died and then a return trip after she died, and
my 9th consecutive San Diego Comic-Con trip (including Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City, Sacramento, Oakland, and Los Angeles).
Ego strokes: Paul Dickson used one of my photos as the author photo in his book "Aphorisms: Words Wrought by Writers".
Number of photos taken this year: just over 470,000.
