Description of Pictures: Press Freedom in the 21st Century
The Newseum Institute and Free Speech Now!, a London-based but globally-focused campaign from spiked magazine, offer a unique one-day conference discussing press freedom in the 21st century. The event brings together leading American and European editors and journalists to explore whether press freedom is an endangered ideal, and why it is still vitally important to defend it.
The day is based around two debates: “Taming The Messenger: The New Threats to Press Freedom” looks at the major barriers to a free and open press today; while “The Press in the 21st Century: Are We All Journalists Now?” considers how the internet has changed journalism and press freedom.
