Guests: Wil Haygood and Charles Allen
Washington Post reporter Wil Haygood talks about his newspaper article that inspired the 2013 blockbuster film, "Lee Daniels' The Butler."
In 2008, Haygood profiled Eugene Allen, an African-American butler who served eight presidents, from Harry Truman to Ronald Reagan. Haygood wrote the story before the election of President Barack Obama as a way to explore the life of someone who had come of age when segregation was widespread.
Appearing with Haygood is Charles Allen, the son of Eugene Allen.
Haygood will also discuss his book, "The Butler: A Witness to History," which explores Allen's life and service and chronicles how African Americans have been portrayed in Hollywood. The book also features photos of Eugene Allen, his family, the presidents he served and the cast of the movie, which includes Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey.
A book signing will follow the program.
