Grisha Bruskin: H-Hour
January 26 through March 17, 2013
Contemporary Russian artist Grisha Bruskin's new sculpture project H-Hour examines the myth of the enemy in very diverse manifestations: the hostile state, class enemy, enemy of the subconscious, 'the other' as enemy, time, chronos and death as enemies, the enemy of the human species, among others. His work explores how the trivial is made sacred, how strong the hypnotic power of art and the image in general really is, and how depiction can become a means and instrument for manipulating human consciousness.
Andrei Molodkin: CRUDE
January 26 through March 17, 2013
Andrei Molodkin is an internationally recognized contemporary Russian artist engaged in deconstructing the economic realities of geopolitical praxis. Consisting of his monumental ballpoint-pen drawings and his three-dimensional constructions filled with crude oil, Molodkin's exhibition CRUDE effectively articulates the space between people's peaceful, democratic aspirations and the unending conflicts perpetuated by oil-politics. CRUDE is a laboratory environment that radicalizes the dynamic between the artwork and the viewer.
Andrea Way: Retrospective 1982–2012
January 26 through March 17, 2013
Washington, D.C., artist Andrea Way’s surfaces are beautiful and exquisitely detailed. Her process is original and idiosyncratic, which Washington independent art critic David Tannous describes as “…the combination of two almost antithetical elements: the elaboration of a plan or code or formula, on the one hand, and the intervention of accidents and unplanned activities, on the other.” Way is a master of her medium, but she knows enough to let the works breathe.
