Description of Pictures: Union General George B. McClellan's Grand Review of the newly reorganized and enlarged Army of the Potomac, held at Bailey's Crossroads, Va., on November 20, 1861, before President Abraham Lincoln and members of his Cabinet, will be re-enacted November 12, 2011, at the Fort McNair Parade Field, Washington, D.C., from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m.
This sesquicentennial re-enactment is being sponsored by the Lincoln at the Crossroads Alliance (LATCRA) with support from the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Foundation, the Bailey’s Crossroads Revitalization Corporation, The Lincoln Forum and many other organizations and individuals
The re-enactment will consist of a parade suggesting the 70,000 troops that marched before Lincoln on a cold, wet November day on the old Leesburg Pike, today's Virginia Route 7 in the heart of Bailey's Crossroads. The parade route had been a Confederate campsite abandoned by Rebel forces on Munson's Hill shortly before McClellan's Grand Review.
In addition to Civil War re-enactors, participants in the 2011 parade will include the Joint Forces Color Guard, the Continental Fife and Drum Corps of the Third Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), and modern-day armed forces veterans.
Michael S. Linnington, Commanding General, Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region/Military District of Washington, will present remarks. Other speakers will include Colonel Carl Coffman, Commander of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall; and Rhode Island Supreme Court Chief Justice Emeritus and renowned Lincoln scholar Frank J. Williams.
Actor Jim Getty, well known for his realistic portrayals of President Abraham Lincoln, will preside as the 16th president of the United States.
This event, initially planned for re-enactment at the original Bailey's Crossroads location in Falls Church, Va., had to be relocated due to logistical concerns. However, LATCRA President Schacknies said, "The spirit of the original event, including President Lincoln's optimis ...More...

2011 photos: Equipment this year: I was using mostly the Fuji S100fs camera as well as two Nikon models -- the D90 and the new D7000. Mostly a toy, I also purchased a Fuji Real 3-D W3 camera, to try out 3-D photographs. I found it interesting although I don't see any real use for 3-D stills now. Given that many of the photos from the 1860s were in 3-D (including some of the more famous Civil War shots), it's odd to see it coming back.
Trips this year: Savannah, GA in March to cover a Civil War Trust conference. New Jersey over Memorial Day for my birthday -- people never seem to visit New Jersey -- it's always just a pit stop on the way to New York. I thought I might as well spend a few days there. Despite some nice places, it still ended up a pit stop for me -- New York City was infinitely more interesting. I did my annual pilgrimage to the San Diego Comic-Con in July, adding a few days in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Chattanooga, TN to cover the Civil War Trust's Grand Review conference.
Ego strokes: Author photos that I took were used on two book jackets this year: Jason Emerson's book "The Dark Days of Abraham Lincoln's Widow As Revealed by Her Own Letters" and Dennis L. Noble's "The U.S. Coast Guard's War on Human Smuggling." I also had a photo of Jason Stelter published in the Washington Examiner and a picture of Miss DC, Ashley Boalch, published in the Washington Post.
Number of photos taken this year: 392,000. Absurd, isn't it?
