Description of Pictures: Party Crashers at Artisphere -- Comic Book Culture Invades the Art World:
A collaborative exhibition between Artisphere and the Arlington Arts Center. The exhibit at Artisphere in the Terrace Gallery, examines the ways in which comic art's influence is evident in the pieces and working methods of fine artists. Bold black lines, flat expanses of solid color, sequential storytelling and the joining of literature and imagery are common facets of artworks made today. Whether consciously or unconsciously, fine artists co-opt this powerful pop culture idiom's history, formal elements and narrative devices to tell their own stories.
The sister exhibit at the Arlington Arts Center features the work of alternative comic artists, including published works, original pages and pieces in a variety of media made specifically for the gallery.
Exhibiting Artists: D. Billy (NYC); iona rozeal brown (NY/DC); Eric Cheevers (DC); Anna U. Davis (DC); Nekisha Durrett (DC); Jim Houser (PA); Tim Kerr (TX); Matt Leines (PA); Thom Lessner (PA); Ryan Nelson (MI); Oura Sananikone (VA); Zach Storm (DC/MD).

Wikipedia Description: Artisphere
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Artisphere is a cultural center located in the Rosslyn section of Arlington, Virginia.
The Cultural Affairs Division of Arlington County, Virginia organized the new institution, which opened in October 2010. Artisphere occupies the space that previously housed the Newseum until its relocation to Washington, DC on March 3, 2002, as well as a nearby theatre which was orginially build to show motion pictures.
Facilities:
The 62,000 sq ft (5,800 m2) facility was converted at a cost of $6.7 million. The specific facilities include:
* 220-seat Dome Theatre, for concerts and films
* 4,000 sq ft (370 m2) Terrace Gallery, for art exhibits
* WiFi Town Square, with a two-story high video wall
* 3,000 sq ft (280 m2) Ballroom
* 125-seat black box theatre
* 387-seat Spectrum Theatre
* retail space for selling crafts
Operation:
Artisphere will have an annual operating budget of $3.1 million, of which $300,000 will be funded by the Rosslyn Business Improvement District. Programming will include serving as the home of the Washington Shakespeare Company, the Bowen McCauley Dance Company and the National Chamber Ensemble. The Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse and the Alexandria Symphony have also pledged to produce events there, and the ballroom is expected to be used for salsa, swing and social dancing.
The center's name was selected from among those proposed by a opinion poll of Arlington residents. The name is inspired by the geodesic dome that houses one of the theaters.
Bigger photos? To save server space, the full-sized versions of these images have either not been loaded to the server or have been removed from the server. (Only some pages are loaded with full-sized images and those usually get removed after three months.)
I still have them though. If you want me to email them to you, please send an email to guthrie.bruce@gmail.com
and I can email them to you, or, depending on the number of images, just repost the page again will the full-sized images.

2010 photos: Equipment this year: I mostly used the Fuji S100fs until the third one broke and I started sending them back for repairs. Then I used either the Fuji S200EHX or the Nikon D90 until I got the S100fs ones repaired. At the end of the year I bought a Nikon D5000 but I returned it pretty quickly.
Trips this year:
Civil War Trust conferences (Lexington, KY and Nashville, TN), and
my 5th consecutive San Diego Comic-Con trip (including Los Angeles).
My office at the main Commerce Department building closed in October and I was shifted out to the Bureau of the Census in Suitland Maryland. It's good to have a job of course but that killed being able to see basically any cultural events during the day. There's basically nothing of interest that you can see around the Census building.
Number of photos taken this year: about 395,000..
