Description of Pictures: The Climate War: A View From the Trenches
The great American argument over global warming continues to rage on Capitol Hill and beyond. What is it like to devote your career to passing a climate bill — a decade-long struggle that’s hotter than ever today? Why has it been so difficult for the U.S. to come to grips with this problem, and why do so many Americans still believe it’s not really happening? In The Climate War: True Believers, Power Brokers, and the Fight to Save the Earth, award-winning journalist Eric Pooley describes the political and economic battle surrounding climate change legislation, offering a revealing look at the power players who are working to either make or break transformative energy policy.
In a rare panel discussion, Pooley interviews key players of the Environmental Defense Fund’s National Climate Campaign, the most passionate advocates for a mandatory declining cap on carbon emissions. These unsung heroes from the trenches of the Climate War include:
* Steve Cochran, Director;
* Tony Kreindler, Media Director;
* Melissa Carey, Climate Change Policy Specialist; and
* Mark MacLeod, Director of Special Projects.
Together, they will lead a tour of the climate battleground, from the backrooms of Capitol Hill to the corporate C-suites to the West Wing of the Obama White House.
Pooley, deputy editor of Bloomberg Businessweek, is also the former managing editor of Fortune and the former national editor, White House correspondent and chief political correspondent at Time.

Bigger photos? To save server space, the full-sized versions of these images have either not been loaded to the server or have been removed from the server. (Only some pages are loaded with full-sized images and those usually get removed after three months.) I still have them though. 2010 photos: Equipment this year: I mostly used the Fuji S100fs until the third one broke and I started sending them back for repairs. Then I used either the Fuji S200EHX or the Nikon D90 until I got the S100fs ones repaired. At the end of the year I bought a Nikon D5000 but I returned it pretty quickly. Trips this year: Civil War Trust conferences (Lexington, KY and Nashville, TN), and my 5th consecutive San Diego Comic-Con trip (including Los Angeles). My office at the main Commerce Department building closed in October and I was shifted out to the Bureau of the Census in Suitland Maryland. It's good to have a job of course but that killed being able to see basically any cultural events during the day. There's basically nothing of interest that you can see around the Census building. Number of photos taken this year: about 395,000..
