Description of Pictures: NPC Newsmaker Program: A conversation with former Sen. McGovern, 1968 Democratic presidential candidate and 1972 presidential nominee; and
Washington Post Pulitzer Prize Winning Columnist David S. Broder, reporter on presidential elections since 1960.
"Back to the Future: How Nominating Conventions and News Coverage Have/Haven’t Changed Since the 1968 Democratic National Convention".
In an article in the August issue of Smithsonian magazine on four political conventions that changed America, the 1968 Democratic National Convention is described as “eclipsing any other such convention in American history – destroying faith in politicians, in the political system, in the country and in its institutions.” Approaching the 40th anniversary of the 1968 convention in Chicago and the 2008 Democratic Convention in Denver, Sen. McGovern and The Post’s Broder will discuss how nominating conventions and their news coverage have or haven’t changed. As a result of the 1968 Democratic Convention, Sen. McGovern headed a commission to reform his party’s nominating process, which called for proportional voting used in subsequent and this year’s Democratic primaries. And the 2008 Democratic Convention will be the first time, since Harry Truman’s nomination was televised in 1948, in which bloggers are credentialed as journalists. What have we learned since 1968, and what can we expect in 2008?

Bigger photos? To save server space, the full-sized versions of these images have either not been loaded to the server or have been removed from the server. (Only some pages are loaded with full-sized images and those usually get removed after three months.)
I still have them though. If you want me to email them to you, please send an email to guthrie.bruce@gmail.com
and I can email them to you, or, depending on the number of images, just repost the page again will the full-sized images.

2008 photos: Equipment this year: I was using three cameras -- the Fuji S9000 and the Canon Rebel Xti from last year, and a new camera, the Fuji S100fs. The first two cameras had their pluses and minuses and I really didn't have a single camera that I thought I could use for just about everything. But I loved the S100fs and used it almost exclusively this year.
Trips this year: (1) Civil War Preservation Trust annual conference in Springfield, Missouri , (2) a week in New York, (3) a week in San Diego for the Comic-Con, (4) a driving trip to St. Louis, and (5) a visit to dad and Dixie's in Asheville, North Carolina.
Ego strokes: A picture I'd taken last year during a Friends of the Homeless event was published in USA Today with a photo credit and everything! I became a volunteer photographer with the AFI/Silver theater.
Number of photos taken this year: 330,000.
