Description of Pictures: The Eisenhower Institute, together with the George C. Marshall Foundation, are hosting an author event on November 6, 2007, featuring Mark Perry, author of the recently-released Partners in Command: George Marshall and Dwight Eisenhower in War and Peace. The event will be at the Eisenhower Institute in Washington, D.C. from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Partners in Command looks at one of military history's most fateful partnerships. Perry follows Marshall and Eisenhower's collaboration from the major battles in North Africa and Italy to the planning and execution of the D-Day invasion, the crisis of the Battle of the Bulge, and the postwar implementation of the Marshall Plan, and the establishment of Eisenhower's leadership of NATO. Perry shows that Marshall and Eisenhower were remarkably close colleagues who brilliantly combined strengths and offset each other's weaknesses. Partners in Command explores the often ignored alliance between two iconic military figures and how their unusual collaboration would ultimately shape fifty years of successful American foreign policy. Mark Perry a military, intelligence and foreign affairs analyst and writer. He is co-director of Conflicts Forum, an international organization working for peace in the Middle East. Partners is his seventh book; his articles have appeared in publications such as The Nation, The Washington Post and Newsday. Perry has served as editor for a number of publications including Washington D.C.'s City Paper and The Veteran, the largest circulation newspaper for veterans in the nation. He helped research and write the BBC's 1991 award-winning production of "The Intelligence War Against Iraq" and has appeared in many media and national forums such as CNN's "Special Assignment" and "The International Hour." The book discussion will be followed by a question-and-answer session and book signing.

Description of Subject Matter: The Eisenhower Institute is a distinguished center for leadership and public policy based in Washington, D.C. and in Gettysburg, PA. Honoring the legacy of Dwight D. Eisenhower, The Eisenhower Institute prepares the successor generations to perfect the promise of the nation through engagement in distinctive programs of leadership and public policy.

A program of Gettysburg College, the Institute is a non-partisan, non-profit, presidential legacy organization that develops and sponsors civic discourse on significant issues of domestic and international public policy. Its activities include research and scholarship, education and outreach, and recognition and celebration. We strive to embody Eisenhower's model of public policy formation and leadership, and our programs encourage greater understanding of our core governmental institutions, bridging the perspectives of scholars, policy-makers, students, and citizens.

2007 photos: Equipment this year: I used the Fuji S9000 almost exclusively except for the period when it broke and I had to send it back for repairs. In August, I bought a Canon Rebel Xti, my first digital SLR (vs regular digital) which I tried as well but I wasn't that excited by it. Trips this year: Two weeks down south (including Graceland, Shiloh, VIcksburg, and New Orleans), a week at a time share in Costa Rica over my 50th birthday, a week off for a family reunion in the Wisconsin Dells (with sidetrips to Dayton, Springfield, and Madison), a week in San Diego for the Comic-Con with a side trip to Michigan for two family reunions, a drive up to Niagara Falls, a couple of weekend jaunts including the Civil War Preservation Trust Grand Review in Vicksburg, and a December journey to three state capitols (Richmond, Raleigh, and Columbia). I saw sites in 18 states and 3 other countries this year -- the first year I'd been to more than two other countries since we lived in Venezuela when I was a little toddler. Ego strokes: A photo that I took at the National Archives was used as the author photo on the book jacket for David A. Nichols' "A Matter of Justice: Eisenhower and the Beginning of the Civil Rights Revolution." I became a volunteer photographer at both Sixth and I Historic Synagogue and the Civil War Preservation Trust (later renamed "Civil War Trust").. Number of photos taken this year: 225,000.
