(070910) The starling that got into the building and hangs out at the snack bar waiting for treats. When the fountain in the middle of the building is closed up for some reason, the staff leaves water containers out for him. (2) Work progresses on "channeling" the walls to install a new fire detection system. Kind of an odd thing to do. The building's solid brick specifically to make it fireproof. The only way to put the wiring in there is to cut out a path through the bricks.
(071201) Pictures here are setting up for an annual "Christmas in Washington" concert. I didn't see the concert but here's a write-up about it.
From http://www.happynews.com/news/12102007/president-attends-christmas-benefit.htm :
The nation's capital rolled out the red carpet — and holiday garlands — Sunday for music stars like Alan Jackson and Katharine McPhee, who performed for President Bush and the first lady at the annual ''Christmas in Washington'' concert.
TV host ''Dr. Phil'' McGraw and his wife, Robin, hosted the festivities for the fourth time. The event, which took place at the National Building Museum, benefited Children's National Medical Center.
''This event is one of the season's great traditions,'' Bush said. ''After all, when else can you see a world-class tenor, country music legend and Dr. Phil all in the same place?''
The president thanked the members of the military, calling them ''one of our greatest blessings.''
''Many are spending this Christmas far from their homes, but they are close in our thoughts and our prayers, and so are the families who support them,'' Bush said.
Internet sensation Colbie Caillat sang ''I'll be Home for Christmas'' and joined R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo for a duet of ''Silent Night.'' Tenor Andrea Bocelli performed ''Adeste Fideles,'' and ''American Idol'' runner-up McPhee took over the tune to sing ''O Come All Ye Faithful.'' ''High School Musical'' star Vanessa Hudgens performed ''The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire),'' and Tony-winner Heather Headley sang ''Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.'' Country music legend Jackson performed his own holiday song, ''Let it be Christmas.''
The president and first lady joined the performers on stage for the final number, ''Hark, the Herald Angels Sing.''
The concert will air Wednesday night on Turner Network Television.

I love well-behaved spiders! They are, in fact, how most people find my site. Unfortunately, my network has a limited bandwidth and pictures take up bandwidth. Spiders ask for lots and lots of pages and chew up lots and lots of bandwidth which slows things down considerably for regular folk. To counter this, you'll see all the text on the page but the images are being suppressed. Also, some system options like merges are being blocked for you.
Note: Permission is NOT granted for spiders, robots, etc to use the site for AI-generation purposes. I'm sure you're thrilled by your ability to make revenue from my work but there's nothing in that for my human users or for me.
If you are in fact human, please email me at guthrie.bruce@gmail.com and I can check if your designation was made in error. Given your number of hits, that's unlikely but what the hell.

- Bigger photos? To save server space, the full-sized versions of these images have either not been loaded to the server or have been removed from the server. (Only some pages are loaded with full-sized images and those usually get removed after three months.)
I still have them though. If you want me to email them to you, please send an email to guthrie.bruce@gmail.com
and I can email them to you, or, depending on the number of images, just repost the page again will the full-sized images.
- Connection Not Secure messages? Those warnings you get from your browser about this site not having secure connections worry some people. This means this site does not have SSL installed (the link is http:, not https:). That's bad if you're entering credit card numbers, passwords, or other personal information. But this site doesn't collect any personal information so SSL is not necessary. Life's good!
