- Copyrights: All pictures were taken by amateur photographer Bruce Guthrie (me!) who retains copyright on them. Free for non-commercial use with attribution. See the [Creative Commons] definition of what this means. "Photos (c) Bruce Guthrie" is fine for attribution. (Commercial use folks including AI scrapers can of course contact me.) Feel free to use in publications and pages with attribution but you don't have permission to sell the photos themselves. A free copy of any printed publication using any photographs is requested. Descriptive text, if any, is from a mixture of sources, quite frequently from signs at the location or from official web sites; copyrights, if any, are retained by their original owners.
- Accessing as Spider: The system has identified your IP as being a spider.
IP Address: 3.17.150.163 -- Domain: Amazon Technologies
I love well-behaved spiders! They are, in fact, how most people find my site. Unfortunately, my network has a limited bandwidth and pictures take up bandwidth. Spiders ask for lots and lots of pages and chew up lots and lots of bandwidth which slows things down considerably for regular folk. To counter this, you'll see all the text on the page but the images are being suppressed. Also, some system options like merges are being blocked for you.
Note: Permission is NOT granted for spiders, robots, etc to use the site for AI-generation purposes. I'm sure you're thrilled by your ability to make revenue from my work but there's nothing in that for my human users or for me.
If you are in fact human, please email me at guthrie.bruce@gmail.com and I can check if your designation was made in error. Given your number of hits, that's unlikely but what the hell.
- Help? The Medium (Email) links are for screen viewing and emailing. You'll want bigger sizes for printing. [Click here for additional help]

- Specific picture descriptions: Photos above with "i" icons next to the bracketed sequence numbers (e.g. "[1] ") are described as follows:
- FLY_050118_004.JPG: You're see Benjamin Banneker Park and the area of L'Enfant Plaza. On the top left of the picture, you can see the new National Museum of the American Indian with the reflecting pool in front of the Capital near it. You can also see part of the National Air and Space Museum.
- FLY_050118_007.JPG: You can see a chunk of the National Mall here including the Smithsonian Castle, the Hirshhorn Museum (the donut), the National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of the American Indian, the National Gallery of Art, etc.
- FLY_050118_014.JPG: You get to see the moat they're building around the Washington Monument. The National Museum of American History is to the right of it. The Department of Commerce is to the left of it. You can see part of the National World War II Memorial on the left side.
- FLY_050118_017.JPG: The Lincoln Memorial. Note that the memorial's roof is mostly skylights.
- FLY_050118_022.JPG: The Kennedy Center is there by the water with the Watergate just above it. The road leading up the left edge is New Hampshire Avenue. The large building to the right of center is the State Department building. Going down the street up and to the right, the building that looks like bullets in a cartridge is the Department of Agriculture. Go directly up from there and the white building in the only real green lawn of the picture? That's the White House.
- FLY_050118_026.JPG: The dirty water is the Potomac River. Along the coast are the Kennedy Center and the Watergate. The little structure to the left of the Watergate is the Thompson Boat House.
- FLY_050118_028.JPG: The fancy place on the water is Washington Harbor, an upscale place. The elevated road behind it is the Whitehurst Freeway. The green area to the right of that is Rock Creek Park. The bridge over the park at the top of the photo is Pennsylvania Avenue. The hotel to the left of the bridge is the Four Seasons Hotel which is at the gateway into Georgetown.
- FLY_050118_050.JPG: The buildings on the left are the National Institutes of Health. On the right are the Army Medical Center buildings. You can see the Capital Beltway winding along the top.
- FLY_050118_065.JPG: An amazing site. The Anacostia River goes off to the left. The Potomac River goes off to the right. The big island between them is East Potomac Park. The smaller island is Theodore Roosevelt Island. You can see National Airport and Rosslyn on the Virginia side.
- FLY_050118_074.JPG: Rosslyn Virginia
- FLY_050118_077.JPG: East Potomac Park. You can see National Airport across the Potomac River. You can also see the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial, as well as the National World War II Memorial.
- FLY_050118_081.JPG: Despite the jet fuel trails, this isn't a bad photo. You can see East Potomac Park and National Airport in the center. The Woodrow Wilson bridge (the beltway) is at the top). You can see the entire Mall, including the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, and a fuzzy Capital building. If you're familiar with the city, you'll find the White House and the various museums on the Mall as well as the new convention center and just about everything else downtown.
- FLY_050118_089.JPG: Washington Monument from the air
- FLY_050118_091.JPG: An amazing clear shot of the Mall. If you're familiar with the city, you'll recognize it all. Look, too, for the Pentagon, the White House, the Kennedy Center, etc.
- FLY_050118_095.JPG: Alexandria Virginia. Look for the George Washington Masonic Temple on the far right.
- FLY_050118_097.JPG: The new Gaylord center is the scar on the Potomac River. The big bridge is the Woodrow Wilson bridge.
- FLY_050118_101.JPG: A close-up of the Gaylord Center
- FLY_050118_104.JPG: The bird-beak shaped piece of land has a structure amidst the green. That's Fort Washington.
- FLY_050118_133.JPG: For some reason, I'm reasonably certain this is Savannah Georgia
- FLY_050624_04.JPG: That's the George Washington Masonic Temple down there. You can see the little Mason symbol on the front hill.
- FLY_050629_003.JPG: Chicago
- FLY_050629_013.JPG: West coast of Michigan
- FLY_050629_042.JPG: East coast of Michigan

I still have them though. If you want me to email them to you, please send an email to guthrie.bruce@gmail.com
and I can email them to you, or, depending on the number of images, just repost the page again will the full-sized images.
