Specific picture descriptions: Photos above with "i" icons next to the bracketed sequence numbers (e.g. "[1] ") are described as follows:
1. CHRIST_050612_25.JPG: These are hand-lettered tablets, created by James Wren who designed the building. They haven't been retouched although the backgrounds, which were white, have slowly mellowed to the present burnished gold color.
2. CHRIST_050612_29.JPG: The small chandelier under the west gallery was purchased in 1817 and was originally hung in the center of the church.
3. CHRIST_050612_34.JPG: The wine-glass pulpit was installed during the 1890's restoration. No record remains of the exact location and design of the earliest pulpits, but the present one is consistent with the designs, location, and liturgical practices of the period when the church was built.
4. CHRIST_050612_42.JPG: This is George Washington's pew which has been kept in its original orientation. The winters were cold so you'd have a small fire between the people to keep them warm.
5. CHRIST_050612_68.JPG: The bell tower was built in two phases. The lower portion provided the stairway to the galleries. The upper section was added ca. 1820.

Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia, is an Episcopal Church built from 1767 to 1773 by John Carlyle.

The church was designed by James Wren in the Colonial Style, and frequented by such notables as George Washington, Robert E. Lee, and Philip Richard Fendall I. In addition, Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill visited the church on January 1st, 1942 to commemorate World Day of Prayer for Peace. Today, the church has over 2,400 members and is an integral architectural and spiritual part of Alexandria.

2005 photos: Equipment this year: I used four cameras -- two Fujifilm S7000 cameras (which were plagued by dust inside the lens), a new Fujifilm S5200 (nice but not great and I hated the proprietary xD memory chips), and a Canon PowerShot S1 IS (returned because it felt flimsy to me). I gave my Epson camera to my catsitter. Both of the S7000s were in for repairs over Christmas. Trips this year: Florida (for Lotusphere), a driving trip down south (seeing sites in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia), Williamsburg, and Chicago. Number of photos taken this year: 147,000.
