Specific picture descriptions: Photos above with "i" icons next to the bracketed sequence numbers (e.g. "[1] ") are described as follows:
FLY_040405_014.JPG: This is Edinburgh
FLY_040405_046.JPG: We're in Manchester now. The big plane on the right is a Concorde which is going to go to a museum somewhere.
FLY_040405_050.JPG: Fire Service Training Area. This was an area of the airport where they rehearse what to happen when airplanes catch on fire.
FLY_040405_053.JPG: This is the Concorde again
FLY_040405_094.JPG: We're crossing the coast of Scotland
FLY_040405_121.JPG: I'm not sure what's down there. I'm thinking it's an oil platform but maybe not.
FLY_040405_129.JPG: At this point, we're flying over Ireland
FLY_040405_169.JPG: Now we've crossed over Scotland and are heading over the Atlantic Ocean
FLY_040405_200.JPG: We're back over North America now. I'm not sure where this was, probably Canada.
FLY_040405_249.JPG: Maybe that's the Hudson River in the background
FLY_040405_288.JPG: Maybe the Hudson River again
FLY_040405_306.JPG: Strip mining
FLY_040405_341.JPG: The Shenandoah mountains are in the distance
FLY_040405_350.JPG: This is Dulles Airport
FLY_040405_353.JPG: Dulles is on the right. You can see the Udvar-Hazy center on the left.
FLY_040405_360.JPG: This is the Udvar-Hazy center
FLY_040515_005.JPG: Here's Savannah. The bridge in the foreground is US 17 going over the Savannah Front River. Containerized shipping has made Savannah a mecca for transportation again. On the far left is the convention center. You can see the golden tower of city hall in about the middle of the picture.
FLY_040515_008.JPG: The island is Hutchinson Island. On the bottom left you can see the tip of Pennyworth Island.
FLY_040515_015.JPG: You can see the golden dome of city hall in the middle of the far bank
FLY_040515_031.JPG: One of these islands is Hilton Head. I'm voting for it being the one just coming out on the upper left.
FLY_040515_077.JPG: This is the new Wilson Bridge going up south of Washington. The developing area is the new Gaylord Entertainment section. The county could have kept this trees and such but didn't. Oxon Hill Farm Park can be seen just to left of the Beltway in the middle of the green area.
FLY_040515_080.JPG: The airport coming up on the left is Bolling Air Force Base.
FLY_040515_089.JPG: That's the Lincoln Memorial just across the bridge. The Washington Monument can be seen in the dirt patch. You can also see the Capitol, the Jefferson Memorial, the Pentagon, etc. The Kennedy Center is on the far left.
FLY_040515_098.JPG: Rosslyn is in the upper middle, across the river from the Kennedy Center
FLY_040515_127.JPG: Rosslyn. You can make out the Netherlands Carillon in the patch of green at the top.
FLY_040515_129.JPG: Rosslyn. Look between the two tall buildings (one used to be the USA Today building) and go up to the green patch. Just to the left of that, you can see a tiny spot of white which is the flag on the Iwo Jima Memorial.
FLY_040515_137.JPG: Arlington Cemetery is most of this picture. The road leads to the women's military memorial and then the Lee Mansion is beyond that. The buildings in the lower left are for the newer mausoleum section.
FLY_040515_142.JPG: The Pentagon
FLY_040614_46.JPG: Traffic in Philly was bad due to storms to the west and because it's Philly. Originally 25th or so in line, we got bumped up to 4th and were able to take off but everyone else was still there waiting.
FLY_040614_71.JPG: You don't always get to see the contrails form
FLY_041017_03.JPG: New subdivisions popping out around the Dulles airport
FLY_041017_10.JPG: This is the Potomac River. As far as I can tell, the smallest island here is Sharpshin Island. The medium one is Tenfoot Island.
FLY_041017_16.JPG: The stream going in front the bottom is probably Goose Creek. None of the houses to the left of it were there on my map from 2000. Route 7 is the road that runs in the bottom right corner.
FLY_041017_20.JPG: The line across the river is interesting. I have no idea what it is. The C&O Canal runs on the north side of the Potomac.
FLY_041017_51.JPG: This is Williamsport, Maryland. I-81 is the major road crossing the river toward the bottom. You can clearly see the C&O Canal near the Conococheaque River toward the top where US 11 crosses the Potomac.
FLY_041017_80.JPG: We're arriving in Michigan. They already have fall colors.
FLY_041017_93.JPG: I love the clear area below the trees showing where all of the fall leaves have fallen. These are clearly trailer-based homes.
FLY_041022_007.JPG: The Pentagon
FLY_041022_036.JPG: It's always amazing to me to see how they irrigate areas that should never had been irrigated. They're pumping their groundwater dry for short-term gains.
FLY_041022_267.JPG: We're over Los Angeles now.
FLY_041022_331.JPG: I'm not sure but these might be the Channel Islands or something
FLY_041022_363.JPG: The green circle is the Punchbowl, which is the National Cemetery here. Pearl Harbor is in the distance. You can see the state capital building to the left of the Punchbowl. The major road running up from the bottom is H-1.
FLY_041022_404.JPG: Pearl Harbor from the air
FLY_041105_029.JPG: The wall-to-wall people nature of this city makes me shudder

2004 photos: Equipment this year: I bought two Fujifilm S7000 digital cameras. While they produced excellent images, I found all of the retractable-lens Fuji models had a disturbing tendency to get dust inside the lens. Dark blurs would show up on the images and the camera had to be sent back to the shop in order to get it fixed. I returned one of the cameras when the blurs showed up in the first month. I found myself buying extended warranties on cameras.
Trips this year: (1) Margot and I went off to Scotland for a few days, my first time overseas. (2) I went to Hawaii on business (such a deal!) and extended it, spending a week in Hawaii and another in California. (3) I went to Tennessee to man a booth and extended it to go to my third Fan Fair country music festival.
Number of photos taken this year: 110,000.
