Specific picture descriptions: Photos above with "i" icons next to the bracketed sequence numbers (e.g. "[1] ") are described as follows:
PTLOOC_040710_10.JPG: The marker in the front is the taller one. It has the names of the Confederate prisoners who were buried here. (They're trying to update the list.) A marker on the far memorial says:
Colonel Wm. Elliott
General Wm. C. Oates
and
Governor James H. Berry
Being U.S. Commissioners to mark Confederate graves, the state of Maryland having ceded to the Federal government the cemetery to which the bodies of the Confederates who died prisoners of war at Point Lookout Military Prison had been removed, the War Department granted permission to have the state monument removed and re-erected at this, the original prison burying-ground.

PTLOOC_040710_15.JPG: The marker says:

North Carolina 962
South Carolina 248
Georgia 249
Alabama 75
Tennessee 63
Louisiana 38
Mississippi 42
Florida 31
Kentucky 18
Texas 6
Maryland 6
Arkansas 4
Missouri 4

PTLOOC_040710_77.JPG: You can't see it in this photograph but just outside of the fence is a Confederate flag. The U.S. flag in front was put there instead of the Confederate flag after it was decided that the former flag was politically incorrect. It had been a major political issue for awhile.
Description of Subject Matter: The Point Lookout Confederate Cemetery marks the common burial site of more than 3,300 Confederate soldiers who died during the Civil War. Originally, these Confederate prisoners of war were buried in two cemeteries near the prison camp. In 1870, the state of Maryland moved the remains to the current location about one mile inland. The remains were reinterred in a common gravesite, or mound, because the individual graves could no longer be identified due to a fire that destroyed the wooden headboards marking the graves. In 1910, the state transferred the cemetery to the federal government. The War Department, which then managed the national cemeteries, marked the common gravesite with an 85' granite monument. Twelve bronze tablets containing the names and units of 3,383 Confederate soldiers and sailors known to have died at the prison camp were placed on the monument.
Bigger photos? To save server space, the full-sized versions of these images have either not been loaded to the server or have been removed from the server. (Only some pages are loaded with full-sized images and those usually get removed after three months.)
I still have them though. If you want me to email them to you, please send an email to guthrie.bruce@gmail.com
and I can email them to you, or, depending on the number of images, just repost the page again will the full-sized images.

2004 photos: Equipment this year: I bought two Fujifilm S7000 digital cameras. While they produced excellent images, I found all of the retractable-lens Fuji models had a disturbing tendency to get dust inside the lens. Dark blurs would show up on the images and the camera had to be sent back to the shop in order to get it fixed. I returned one of the cameras when the blurs showed up in the first month. I found myself buying extended warranties on cameras.
Trips this year: (1) Margot and I went off to Scotland for a few days, my first time overseas. (2) I went to Hawaii on business (such a deal!) and extended it, spending a week in Hawaii and another in California. (3) I went to Tennessee to man a booth and extended it to go to my third Fan Fair country music festival.
Number of photos taken this year: 110,000.
