Description of Pictures: Originally, the pandamania artworks were all over the city. Being obsessive, I managed to see them all in their individual locations. I ran into Eleanor Clift while I was out and about and got her photo with one of them.
In September, I visited the "rehab clinic" for the pieces that had been vandalized. Later that month, they got the pieces all together in two spots -- at the Wardman Park Plaza and the American University quad -- to get them ready for final auction so I had to see them all over again. I even met one of the creators, Tita Rutledge, who was doing some last-minute clean-up before the auction.

It's so pathetic what people do to get their kicks in this world. Later, more vandalized pandas were also relocated here.

Description of Subject Matter: Pandamania DC is the second of DC's widespread artworks projects. The first one had been The Party Animals, where 200 donkeys and elephants were painted and decorated by local artists. (The web site for that is http://www.partyanimalsdc.org/ ). As the web site at http://www.pandamaniadc.org/ says: The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, producers of 2002’s hugely successful Party Animals, is presenting PandaMania, 150 creatively designed Panda sculptures placed on display May through September 2004. The exhibition will conclude with a public auction with proceeds used for arts grants and arts education programs.

2004 photos: Equipment this year: I bought two Fujifilm S7000 digital cameras. While they produced excellent images, I found all of the retractable-lens Fuji models had a disturbing tendency to get dust inside the lens. Dark blurs would show up on the images and the camera had to be sent back to the shop in order to get it fixed. I returned one of the cameras when the blurs showed up in the first month. I found myself buying extended warranties on cameras.
Trips this year: (1) Margot and I went off to Scotland for a few days, my first time overseas. (2) I went to Hawaii on business (such a deal!) and extended it, spending a week in Hawaii and another in California. (3) I went to Tennessee to man a booth and extended it to go to my third Fan Fair country music festival.
Number of photos taken this year: 110,000.
