The four stained glass windows of this chapel are known collectively as the "Miracle Windows" because each of them depicts one of the miracles of Christ. They were designed and fabricated in 1931 in the studios of Lawrence B. Saint.
Years of "baking" in the hot sun have cause[d] the lead caming -- the lead between the pieces of glass -- to grow soft and to sag. If allowed to continue, this would eventually result in the glass falling out of the frame.
Stained glass fabricator Dieter Goldkuhle, working with Cathedral masons, recently removed the glass from this window for cleaning and restoration. The Cathedral's team of masons repaired and repointed the stone arches in which the windows fit. The releaded glass was then reinstalled, using modern materials which may better withstand the rigors of Washington's climate changes.
NCATHI_040925_218.JPG: This was an exhibit called "Faith & Courage: U.S. Chaplains' Service in World War II" that the Cathedral had timed for the opening of the World War II Memorial. It was an interesting collection of artifacts, photos, and text. It mentioned that there were 11,000 chaplains in the Army and Navy by the end of the war, up from 394 before the war. They followed the men. My favorite photo was of the feet of two kneeling men praying, one a chaplain, both with boots encased in mud.
NCATHI_040925_237.JPG: Eleanor Roosevelt has a statue here
NCATHI_040925_243.JPG: This is the Bethlehem Chapel. Located on one end of the cathedral, it was the first chapel to open there and continued while the rest of the cathedral was erected around it. Services started here in 1912 and have continued since.

Bigger photos? To save server space, the full-sized versions of these images have either not been loaded to the server or have been removed from the server. (Only some pages are loaded with full-sized images and those usually get removed after three months.)
I still have them though. If you want me to email them to you, please send an email to guthrie.bruce@gmail.com
and I can email them to you, or, depending on the number of images, just repost the page again will the full-sized images.

2004 photos: Equipment this year: I bought two Fujifilm S7000 digital cameras. While they produced excellent images, I found all of the retractable-lens Fuji models had a disturbing tendency to get dust inside the lens. Dark blurs would show up on the images and the camera had to be sent back to the shop in order to get it fixed. I returned one of the cameras when the blurs showed up in the first month. I found myself buying extended warranties on cameras.
Trips this year: (1) Margot and I went off to Scotland for a few days, my first time overseas. (2) I went to Hawaii on business (such a deal!) and extended it, spending a week in Hawaii and another in California. (3) I went to Tennessee to man a booth and extended it to go to my third Fan Fair country music festival.
Number of photos taken this year: 110,000.
