- Description of Pictures: Historian Douglas Brinkley is the author of numerous nonfiction books including three biographies: Dean Acheson: The Cold War Years (1992), Driven Patriot: The Life and Times of James Forrestal (1992), and The Unfinished Presidency: Jimmy Carter’s Journey Beyond the White House (1998) — all chosen as “Notable Books” by The New York Times. His most recent book is Tour of Duty: John Kerry and the Vietnam War (William Morrow, 2004), a New York Times bestseller and he is editor of Windblown World: The Journals of Jack Kerouac 1947-1954 (Viking, 2004). He is director of the Eisenhower Center for American Studies and professor of history at the University of New Orleans; he also lives in New Orleans.

I love well-behaved spiders! They are, in fact, how most people find my site. Unfortunately, my network has a limited bandwidth and pictures take up bandwidth. Spiders ask for lots and lots of pages and chew up lots and lots of bandwidth which slows things down considerably for regular folk. To counter this, you'll see all the text on the page but the images are being suppressed. Also, some system options like merges are being blocked for you.
