Specific picture descriptions: Photos above with "i" icons next to the bracketed sequence numbers (e.g. "[1] ") are described as follows:
HHILL_041104_018.JPG: Buster Keaton
HHILL_041104_022.JPG: Jon Hall made a series of adventure films set in jungles, the South Seas, Arabian deserts, and other exotic lands. Among them, he starred in "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" and "Prince of Thieves."
HHILL_041104_029.JPG: Figure at the bottom of the George Washington memorial
HHILL_041104_033.JPG: The mural depicts various scenes from the founding of the country. You can see the total length of it is 80 or more feet.
HHILL_041104_036.JPG: Another item from the George Washington memorial
HHILL_041104_039.JPG: Stan Laurel. This was the only grave I found on my initial visit to this place in 2002.
HHILL_041104_073.JPG: This was interesting. They set up a section of the visitor center which featured the victims of 9/11. They included the New York Times descriptions of each of the victims in notebooks on either side of this plaque.
HHILL_041104_085.JPG: Abraham Lincoln's statue and a mosaic of his life are nearby
HHILL_041104_089.JPG: Detail from the American Revolution mosaic
HHILL_041104_092.JPG: In front of the reproduction of Boston's Old North Church is The Washington Memorial. Sign:
The Washington Memorial: Thomas Ball -- Sculptor 1819-1911
Washington wears the uniform of the army he had led through six bitter years of war. In the midst of battle, his fearless example inspired his men; when hunger stalked his weary troops, he shared their lot; when his own officers betrayed him, he fought on. So that generals from national across the sea came one by one, to serve him proudly. And at last god granted his prayers for victory and peace.
The seated figures represent the forces that shaped his life: Oppression, Revolution, Victory and the return to peace, symbolized by Cincinnatus, the citizen-soldier. The portrait busts are those of Washington's finest generals: the Marquis de Lafayette, Benjamin Lincoln, Nathanael Greene, and Henry Knox.
HHILL_041104_095.JPG: The size of these mosaics are amazing!
HHILL_041104_121.JPG: Bob Kane, creator of Batman.
Robert Kane, aka Bob Kane. October 24, 1915 - November 3, 1998
God bestowed a dream upon Bob Kane. Blessed with divine inspiration and a rich imagination, Bob created a legacy known as Batman.
Introduced in a May 1939 comic book, Batman grew from a tiny acorn into an American Icon.
A "Hand of God" creation, Batman and his world personify the eternal struggle of good vs evil, with god's laws prevailing in the end.
Bob Kane, Bruce Wayne, Batman -- they are one and the same. Bob infused his dual identify character with his own attributes: goodness, kindness, compassion, sensitivity, generosity, intelligence, integrity, courage, purity of spirit, a love of all mankind.
Batman is known as the "Dark Knight." But through his deeds, he walks in the Light of a Higher Power, as did his creator -- Bob Kane!
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather.
In Loving Memory.
(Personally, I found this marker to be pretty distasteful but I enjoyed seeing the bat symbol!)
HHILL_041104_135.JPG: Telly Savalas
HHILL_041104_148.JPG: I have no idea who these people are but I was impressed to see Halloween decorations on his grave site. Those are little fake gravestones just above the flowers and a string of pumpkins around the sculpture.

2004 photos: Equipment this year: I bought two Fujifilm S7000 digital cameras. While they produced excellent images, I found all of the retractable-lens Fuji models had a disturbing tendency to get dust inside the lens. Dark blurs would show up on the images and the camera had to be sent back to the shop in order to get it fixed. I returned one of the cameras when the blurs showed up in the first month. I found myself buying extended warranties on cameras.
Trips this year: (1) Margot and I went off to Scotland for a few days, my first time overseas. (2) I went to Hawaii on business (such a deal!) and extended it, spending a week in Hawaii and another in California. (3) I went to Tennessee to man a booth and extended it to go to my third Fan Fair country music festival.
Number of photos taken this year: 110,000.
