Description of Pictures: I intercepted an invitation to go the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new US Census Bureau headquarters building. The invitation had been sent to Ken Rogers, the STAT-USA director who had died several years before. The current director, Forrest Williams, and I went instead. As the program said:
This General Services Administration, in partnership with the Census Bureau, breaks ground today for the new 1.5 million square foot Census headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. This unique and exciting project, which has already won a GSA design excellence award for architectural excellence, will consolidate operations for Census' 6,000 employees. The project is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2010 Census.
Speakers included Senator Barbara Mikulski, Samuel Bodman (U.S. Secretary of Commerce), Congressman Albert Wynn, Congressman Steny Hoyer, and Congressman Steven C Latourette.

CEN_030916_516.JPG: Preparing for the official shovel ceremony. The shovels are in a sandbox above the floor and they really aren't breaking the ground during the ceremony but it's symbolic and all. They had done a nonofficial ceremony right before the speeches which included US Senator Barbara Mikulski -- she had to rush back to the Senate for some action and couldn't stick around for the post-ceremony version.
Bigger photos? To save server space, the full-sized versions of these images have either not been loaded to the server or have been removed from the server. (Only some pages are loaded with full-sized images and those usually get removed after three months.)
I still have them though. If you want me to email them to you, please send an email to guthrie.bruce@gmail.com
and I can email them to you, or, depending on the number of images, just repost the page again will the full-sized images.

2003 photos: Equipment this year: I decided my Epson digital camera wasn't quite enough for what I wanted. Since I already had Compact Flash chips for it, I had to find another camera which used CF chips. That brought me to buy the Fujifilm S602 Zoom in March 2003. A great digital camera, I used it exclusively for an entire year.
Trips this year: Three-week trip this year out west, mostly in Utah.
Number of photos taken this year: 68,000.
