DC -- Verizon Center -- Event: Korean War 50th Anniversary event (at MCI Center):
- Bruce Guthrie Photos Home Page: [Click here] to go to Bruce Guthrie Photos home page.
- Description of Pictures: I went to the show for the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice at the MCI Center. It was a free event which wasn't that well attended. I had never been to the MCI Center so this was a first for me.
The show itself was hosted by Ed McMahon (Here's Johnny!). He posed for me; McMahon was an F-9 Panther pilot, flying 85 combat missions as an artillery spotter during the war.
Other appearances were by the Kyung-Hee University Dance Troupe, a special tribute to Bob Hope (who died the next day), Randy Travis (performing "Three Wooden Crosses", a song which was a recent hit on the country charts), the Platters (wearing blue), the Cornell Gunter Coasters (wearing red), the Elsbeary Hobbs Drifters (wearing white).James McEachin (who gave an interesting history of the military services), Tyler Hoechlin (who played Tom Hanks' son in "Road To Perdition"), somebody Meyer, and various other folks.
For Sunday, they had another ceremony, this one at the Korean War memorial. Present was John Alli, a Persian Gulf War veteran, who had taken a picture of the memorial for his dad for a retirement gift. It ended up becoming a stamp which was unveiled that day. It also included talks by Ed McMahon, the Post Master general, Assistant Secretary of Defense Paul D. Wolfowitz, and others.

- Copyrights: All pictures were taken by amateur photographer Bruce Guthrie (me!) who retains copyright on them. Free for non-commercial use with attribution. See the [Creative Commons] definition of what this means. "Photos (c) Bruce Guthrie" is fine for attribution. (Commercial use folks including AI scrapers can of course contact me.) Feel free to use in publications and pages with attribution but you don't have permission to sell the photos themselves. A free copy of any printed publication using any photographs is requested. Descriptive text, if any, is from a mixture of sources, quite frequently from signs at the location or from official web sites; copyrights, if any, are retained by their original owners.
- Accessing as Spider: The system has identified your IP as being a spider.
IP Address: 3.133.131.168 -- Domain: Amazon Technologies
I love well-behaved spiders! They are, in fact, how most people find my site. Unfortunately, my network has a limited bandwidth and pictures take up bandwidth. Spiders ask for lots and lots of pages and chew up lots and lots of bandwidth which slows things down considerably for regular folk. To counter this, you'll see all the text on the page but the images are being suppressed. Also, some system options like merges are being blocked for you.
Note: Permission is NOT granted for spiders, robots, etc to use the site for AI-generation purposes. I'm sure you're thrilled by your ability to make revenue from my work but there's nothing in that for my human users or for me.
If you are in fact human, please email me at guthrie.bruce@gmail.com and I can check if your designation was made in error. Given your number of hits, that's unlikely but what the hell.

- Specific picture descriptions: Photos above with "i" icons next to the bracketed sequence numbers (e.g. "[1] ") are described as follows:
- KWAR_030726_009.JPG: Attendance got a bit better than this but the place still wasn't filled
- KWAR_030726_026.JPG: Ed McMahon @ Korean War 50th Anniversary Event @ MCI Center. I was impressed that he actually posed for me.
- KWAR_030726_089.JPG: The kid on the right is Tyler Hoechlin, who played Tom Hanks' son in "The Road To Perdition".
- KWAR_030726_119.JPG: This was the Kyung-Hee University Dance Troupe. Korean music is definitely an acquired taste. It was just noise to me but some of the costumes were nice.
- KWAR_030726_267.JPG: They had a tribute to Bob Hope which was very sweet. He died the next day.
- KWAR_030726_285.JPG: Randy Travis (performing "Three Wooden Crosses", a song which was a recent hit on the country charts).
- KWAR_030726_337.JPG: The Platters
- KWAR_030726_364.JPG: Cornell Gunther Coasters
- KWAR_030726_382.JPG: Elsbeary Hobbs Drifters
- KWAR_030726_432.JPG: I believe this is Edward C ("Shy") Meyer. He graduated from West Point in 1951 and went to Korea in 1952. He then did two tours in Vietnam. Multiple awards later, he served as Chief of Staff of the Army (1979-83).
- KWAR_030726_555.JPG: James McEachin presented an interesting history of the armed forces and the conflict in Korea.
- KWAR_030726_652.JPG: The kid standing on the right is Tyler Hoechlin who played Tom Hanks' son in "The Road to Perdition".

I still have them though. If you want me to email them to you, please send an email to guthrie.bruce@gmail.com
and I can email them to you, or, depending on the number of images, just repost the page again will the full-sized images.
