Specific picture descriptions: Photos above with "i" icons next to the bracketed sequence numbers (e.g. "[1] ") are described as follows:
WAL1W_090103_25.JPG: The Library:
The library is distinguishable by the original wood paneling, in a style known as Elizabethan Revival -- one of the many revival styles popular in the middle of the 19th century. On the flat walnut strapwork, inspired by 16th-century English woodcarving, are busts of such famous personages as Washington, Franklin, Caesar, and Queen Elizabeth herself.
Mr. and Mrs. Francis M. Jencks, who bought the mansion in 1892, made a number of changes in this room. A new ceiling and fireplace were installed, the plaster walls were covered with fabric, and lighting sconces were put up. During Mrs. Jencks' many years as a widow, the library was the room in which she greeted her family and guests.

Description of Subject Matter: 1 West Mount Vernon Place
Ongoing
1 West Mount Vernon Place, the Walters Art Museum’s 19th-century mansion also known as Hackerman House, is now open after a multi-year transformation.
Situated in the heart of Mount Vernon, 1 West offers visitors exciting new ways to experience the Walters’ renowned collection in one of Baltimore’s most distinctive buildings.
An Architectural Masterpiece
The Walters approached 1 West Mount Vernon Place as a work of art in its own right, creating a new experience of the building and art inside. The project showcases the building’s striking interior features, such as the grand spiral staircase, Tiffany stained-glass skylight, and Baccarat-style chandeliers.
The $10.4 million project was supported by the State of Maryland, the City of Baltimore, the France-Merrick Foundation, Leo and Anna Belle Sirota, Baltimore County, Martha Ann Peters, and other generous donors, and received a Best of Maryland award from Preservation Maryland.
Download the 1 West Mount Vernon Place App
To enhance your experience of 1 West, the Walters created a free, digital app that provides information on the house, the people associated with it, and the objects on display on the first floor.
1 West is supported by the State of Maryland, the City of Baltimore, the France-Merrick Foundation, Leo and Anna Belle Sirota, Baltimore County, Martha Ann Peters, and other generous donors.

2009 photos: Equipment this year: I mostly used the Fuji S100fs. I've also got a Nikon D90 and a newer Fuji -- the S200EHX -- both of which are nice but I still prefer the flexibility of the Fuji.
Trips this year:
Niagara Falls, NY,
New York City,
Civil War Trust conferences in Gettysburg, PA and Springfield, IL, and
my 4th consecutive San Diego Comic-Con trip (including Los Angeles, Yosemite, Death Valley, Kings Canyon, Joshua Tree, etc).
Ego strokes: I had a picture of a Lincoln-Obama cupcake sculpture published in Civil War Times and WUSA-9, the local CBS affiliate, ran a quick piece on me. A picture that I took at the annual Abraham Lincoln Symposium appeared in the National Archives' "Prologue" magazine. I became a volunteer with the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Number of photos taken this year: 417,000.
