Connection Not Secure messages? Those warnings you get from your browser about this site not having secure connections worry some people. This means this site does not have SSL installed (the link is http:, not https:). That's bad if you're entering credit card numbers, passwords, or other personal information. But this site doesn't collect any personal information so SSL is not necessary. Life's good!

How to use SmartBike DC:
SmartBike DC is accessible via online subscription for an annual membership. After accepting the User Agreement and payment, subscribers will receive a personalized SmartBike DC user card that provides access to any station of the program at any time. Subscribers must be 18 years or older.
SmartBike DC uses horizontal racks for docking and parking of bicycles. The easy to identify vertical column that is attached to one end of the rack contains all elements to process the rental operations.
Program Information:
Clear Channel Outdoor together with the District Department of Transportation are excited to bring to Washington DC the first self-service public bike rental program. SmartBike DC is a new and alternative transportation network that uses the latest technologies to facilitate user access and is structured to enhance the city's public transportation system.
Historians of bike sharing programs all credit Clear Channel Outdoor with a pioneering role. The very first self-service bike rental program was ours in the city of Rennes in France in 1998, and subsequently, our programs rapidly spread to Scandinavia and Spain. SmartBike is the only bike rental program of its kind in the world: well tested, user and environmentally friendly and complementary to other modes of public transportation. Please visit us also at Clear Channel Smartbike.com for more information.
Located at key locations in the central business district, the bikes provide a new way of discovering and moving around the city. The bike stations are modular and the bikes are ergonomic and light-weight in a distinct design. Bikes are parked at docking points which use a proprietary locking system to ensure that each bike is securely stored.
The service is accessible via online subscription. Subscribers will receive a personalized SmartBike DC user card that provides access to any station of the program.
The turnkey program includes fulltime operational service. Clear Channel Outdoor's operational team manages the rotation of bikes for each station to assure a proper ratio between available bikes as well as drop-off locations.

Bigger photos? To save space on the server and because the modern camera images are so large, photos larger than 640x480 have not been loaded on this page. If you need the bigger sizes of selected photos, email me and I can email them back to you or I can re-load this page temporarily with the bigger versions restored.
